municipal fire departments responded to an estimated 15,970 home fires involving clothes dryers or washing machines each year (and thats with only two-thirds of fire departments reporting!). The National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA’s) latest report entitled "US-Fire-Problem/Home Fires Involving Clothes Dryers and Washing Machines" cites the latest nationally gathered statistics for residential home fires involving washers and dryers: (1) most of these home fires involved clothes dryers (92%) (2) the leading cause (31%) of home clothes dryer fires was failure to clean and (3) the leading items first ignited in clothes dryer fires were dust, fiber, or lint (27%). BUT, in the worst case if undetected and let go for too long, it can cause a fire in the dryer which can easily spread to the vent in the walls of your home. For example, your dryer may dry so slow you need to run multiple cycles to get your clothes dry, or it may stop working via the auto-shutoff if it gets too hot. When is the last time you pulled your dryer away from the wall? But you may have noticed some of the warning signs. The problem with dryer vent lint buildup is that it can stay hidden from view and become a danger that most of us don’t know exists until something goes wrong. My business is SPECIFICALLY and ONLY focused on dryer vent exhaust systems because lint buildup can be such a dangerous problem that lots of times, people don’t know its an issue.
